The mood ring contains thermochromic liquid crystals. Those crystals are thermosensitive and will change color when fluctuations in body temperature occur. The ring was invented in 1975, in New York, by George Reynolds and Maris Ambates, who connected liquid crystals with quartz stones and placed them on rings.
Temperature fluctuation is related to a person's mood.
Here you can see the spectrum of emotions: Black - anxiety ; Brown - fear ; Yellow - nervousness; Green - calm ; Emerald - relaxation ; Ocean blue - happiness ; Blue - excitement ; Purple - romantic.
